For a month long bikepacking trip in Sweden and Norway in June/July I rode my main expedition wheel, a modified 2010 Surly Pugsley. Wheels built by Nicholas Carman.
The bags are the latest from Revelate Designs, including an excellent zipperless frame bag that Eric sewed on short notice and sent me for testing. I found it near perfect; it’s going back to him for analysis and modification and I’ll miss it while it’s gone. I’m proud to be a Revelate gear ambassador these days, but well before that I bought, abused, and absolutely confidently relied on their fantastic gear.
I also used the versatile and bombproof Everything Bags from Cleaveland Mountaineering to carry two dry bags—one Sea to Summit, one Salsa—on the forks. Highly recommended.
The Fat Bike was essential (I would have been even happier with 5″ tires). I did not use a backpack. The longest stretch between resupply was five and a half days, which was easily managed.
