On several occasions of traveling to destinations in Asia, I’ve had a layover in Hong Kong. It’s a great airport to spend the night in, with late night dining, free wifi, and comfy, quiet spots. Dahlberg also showed me that it’s also easy to do some great rides on Lantau Island right from the terminal. We once had a two night layover there after a flight cancelation, and we didn’t even much mind. We built up our bikes and both days kitted up, checked our luggage into the secure area, and rode away on to some terrific roads. The small communities at the two ends of the island are great for noodle dishes. Obviously, you should also ride up to the Big Buddha (the uphill spur on the left side of the map). Throughout expect short, punchy, and painful hills.
