I recently took delivery of a new bike built by Rob English, an old friend and terrific custom builder. This is a 29er mountain bike designed to fold or disassemble for easy transport in a suitcase. Rob’s clever engineering achieves the same thing that S&S couplers do, but the result is lighter and more elegant. The build is unremarkable except for the use of the Shimano Alfine 8 speed internal hub, shifted by a Jtek lever fixed to a custom bar mount.
In a drop bar configuration, it will likely make a very capable rough conditions expedition touring bike.

sweet ride. the fold looks awesome.
I loved the singletrack around the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska – like the Resurrection Trail. There’s a nice way of linking them all together that Epic Eric, the resident expert, showed me.

Hey Cass — Thanks for reading and for the kind words. Your adventures are great stuff. Funny, I always figured we’d cross paths in reality first. I appreciate the work you put into the course for the Himachal race, and that crew speaks highly of you.
And precisely the Kenai loop that you did is definitely on the agenda. Between your tales, Eric’s trips, and chatting with Jill Homer, I’m certainly looking forward to AK.
All the best,
Joe
Sure we’ll bump into each other on the road – or the trail – at some point!
Have a great time in AK.
